A Treasure from Provence: The Timeless Legacy of Our Olive Grove
Nestled in the heart of Provence, on the sun-drenched lands of Lorgues, our olive grove tells a story rich in excellence and resilience. These majestic trees are the last witnesses to a glorious agricultural past where the olive tree, a symbol of peace and prosperity, lived its golden age.
In 1812, Lorgues was the first municipality in France in terms of olive trees, with nearly 220,000 trees spreading their silver branches under the Provençal sky. However, in January 1820, a catastrophic frost dealt a first blow to this prosperity, after already surviving a major frost in 1709. The war of 1914, the rise of the vineyard, foreign competition, and other oils such as sesame slowly pushed the olive tree into the background. Then came the terrible winter of 1956: a devastating frost that nearly destroyed all of Provence’s olive trees and shut down most of the mills.
Yet, here, on the blessed lands of Bois de Sainte-Foy, a miracle occurred. Thanks to a south-facing exposure and an exceptionally mild microclimate, 3.5 hectares – or 550 olive trees – survived. These trees, guardians of an ancient know-how, continue to produce a rare and precious oil, an authentic reflection of the Provence of old.
Today, we are eager to share this timeless treasure with you. Every drop of our olive oil is an invitation to taste the soul of Provence, to reconnect with the richness of its traditions, and to celebrate the strength of a nature preserved against all odds.
